Unexploded WW2 Bomb: Tuesday morning update

Following yesterday's events, where an unexploded World War Two bomb was found in Bermondsey, a joint letter has been delivered through the night by Southwark Council, the Army, the London Fire Brigade and London Metropolitan Police. Read what the letter says here.

The key points of the letter are:

  • The bomb is a 250kg German air dropped bomb
  • The army bomb disposal team plan to make the bomb safe to remove today (Tuesday 24th March)
  • All homes within the 200 metre zone from the bomb should be evacuated
  • Residents are strongly advised to leave their homes at 0800 this morning to ensure their own safety

I will continue to gather information during the day. If you need assistance in leaving your home, have any concerns, or need advice then call the Southwark Council helpline on 020 7525 0593.
