Police update on unexploded WW2 bomb - Simon Hughes

Police update on unexploded WW2 bomb

I have spoken to local police to seek an update on the unexploded WW2 bomb in Grange.

They have told me that residents living within a 100m radius of the site have been evacuated. This stretches as far as Tower Bridge and Harris Academy, affecting the Neckinger Estate, part of St Saviour's Estate, Aylwin Estate and Vauban Estate.

Two local schools have been evacuated. Kintore Way nursery has also been evacuated and Harris Academy Bermondsey has sent pupils home.

Residents should go to Seven Islands Leisure Centre, which has been set up as a rest centre. Canada Water Library is also available in this capacity.

There is serious traffic congestion in the area and motorists are advised to stay away if possible.

I will remain in close contact with the police and provide updates.

I have cancelled meetings in the House of Commons this afternoon so that I can help support those who have been evacuated.
