Pensioners - Simon Hughes

I am fighting for decent basic state pension rises every year, having already secured the biggest ever increase in the state pension and a cap on elderly care costs.

Pensions have been increased by £800-a-year thanks to the new 'triple-lock' rule. This means that over the course of a retirement, the average pensioner will take £12,000 more. I, also, want state pensions to be raised to around £144.

Pensioners deserve to be given a fairer deal. Which is why elderly care costs will no longer be able to spiral wildly out of control. I fought for a cap on such costs, and that will start in 2016.
