Simon Hughes congratulates Southwark Tigers and other young sports people at House of Commons reception

4.00.17pm GMT Thu 4th Feb 2010

Simon Hughes, member of parliament for North Southwark and Bermondsey, joined Southwark Tigers and other young Southwark sportsmen and women and their coaches and friends at a reception in the Palace of Westminster this week to celebrate their success and support them in their plans for a new pavilion, more facilities and more support in the years ahead.

After meeting young athletes, BMXers, cricketers and rugby and tennis players Simon Hughes said:

"Anybody who had any doubts about the sporting talents and commitment of the boys and girls and young men and women in Southwark should have been at this gathering this week. Participation and success in more and more sports is growing all the time in our borough. The enthusiasm and commitment is fantastic to see. The young people and their coaches and families need out 100% support, encouragement and backing. I will do absolutely all I can to help."
