Hughes backs 10:10 climate change campaign12.00.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Wed 2nd Sep 2009 Simon Hughes has signed up to the 10:10 climate change campaign. Along with thousands of other individuals and organisations, Simon has committed himself to cutting his carbon emissions by 10% in 2010. The 10:10 campaign kicked off in style, with a star-studded launch at Tate Modern on the Southbank. The venue, which is in Simon's constituency, was particularly fitting as the gallery used to be an environmentally-damaging, coal-fired power station. Simon, who is also the Liberal Democrat spokesman for Energy and Climate Change, gave a brief speech at the event, in which he called for local action to help fight climate change, saying "If action can start locally, personally and in your community, then it's much more likely to happen nationally and internationally." Simon encourages all his constituents to sign up to the campaign. "Cutting emissions by 10% in one year is a bold, but achievable target. By committing to this campaign, individuals can help make a real difference in the fight against climate change. It is in all of our interests to get as many people as possible involved in the campaign." To find out more about the campaign and to sign up go to www.1010uk.org.
