Holocaust Memorial Day, House of Commons Commemoration event - Monday 21st January 200812.00.00am GMT Mon 21st Jan 2008 Holocaust Memorial Day, House of Commons Commemoration event - Monday 21st January 2008 Simon Hughes MP, President of the Liberal Democrats joined other parliamentary colleagues and many others at the House of Commons Commemoration event for Holocaust Memorial Day, held in Westminster on Monday 21st January. The event, organised by the Holocaust Educational Trust, heard speakers who were survivors of the Holocaust of the Second World War and of the current genocide in Darfur. After the event, Simon Hughes said: ''I welcome the national commemoration of Holocaust Memorial Day which is now an important part of the civil and political calendar in the United Kingdom. It is vital that people of all generations remember the tragedies of Holocaust's past, the reality of genocide present and the risk of ethnic cleansing in the future. We all have the responsibility not just to remember but to do all we can to prevent such horrors occurring again''. Note Holocaust Memorial is on 27th January.
