Commenting on Anood Al-Samerai's spectacular victory in the Riverside by-election, Simon Hughes MP said:

'This is truly great news for Southwark Liberal Democrats. Anood achieved a swing of 1.8% to the Liberal Democrats which demonstrates we are once again in the ascendancy in Southwark.

Anood will make an excellent councillor for Riverside and I predict she will be one to watch for the future.

The people of Riverside have clearly endorsed what the Liberal Democrats are achieving in Southwark and I thank them for all their support'.
