''I have been asked by colleagues, friends and the press whether I will be willing to declare my support publicly for any of the candidates to be our next Leader. As Party President I do not think it is right to make my any views known until after nominations have closed. I shall make a decision at that time as to whether it is then right for me publicly to support any candidate''.
