Letter to Eleanor Kelly, Chief Executive, Southwark Council - Simon Hughes

Unexploded WW2 bomb update: Letter to Southwark Council Chief Exec

Below is a letter I have just sent to the Chief Executive of Southwark Council, Eleanor Kelly, as a result of today's events in Bermondsey.

Dear Eleanor,

Unexploded bomb in Bermondsey

I have just returned from visiting the temporary rest centre at the Seven Islands Leisure Centre for people unable to return home due to the unexploded bomb near Tower Bridge. A main concern raised with me was a lack of up-to-date information being provided. I would, therefore, like to formally request:

  • That a decision be made by 7PM at the latest, and communicated to residents, about whether they will be able to return to their homes tonight.
  • If residents are unable to return tonight, that temporary accommodation be arranged for them as a matter of urgency.

Thank you in advance for your assistance and I look forward to your reply as soon as possible. Should there be any further information that I can provide in the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact me using the above details.

Yours sincerely,

Rt Hon Simon Hughes MP

MP for Bermondsey and Old Southwark
