Labour squabble over Local Fire Station

Our local community will not be impressed by this squabbling and disagreement within the Labour Party over the future of the London Fire Brigade Training Centre site on Southwark Bridge Road.

I opposed the closure of the fire station, but if it is not going to return to this site then we must make sure it is used for the benefit of local people.

That’s why both the Liberal Democrat Group on the Greater London Authority and the Southwark Liberal Democrat Council Group are united, with me, in wanting to see this site become the home for a new secondary school.

It would be appalling if Labour’s internal rows saw this site used for expensive housing out of the reach of most people, no doubt bought up by wealthy people living abroad, instead of helping to tackle the shortage of school places we are increasingly facing locally.
