To promote tennis in the borough, last weekend Simon Hughes played tennis for the first time this year – after a challenge from a local tennis coach.
Denis McMillan threw down the gauntlet to his local Member of Parliament at Simon’s regular constituency surgery a couple of weeks ago.
The local LTA qualified tennis coach wanted to show first-hand the benefits of proper tennis coaching for local adults and children.
Simon Hughes said: “With Wimbledon on us again, I was glad to accept Denis’ challenge for a bit of local tennis coaching. Local tennis coaches like Denis can help a lot.
“Denis runs a community-interest company and is keen to offer tennis coaching to anybody locally with an interest in the sport.
Denis McMillan said: “Simon definitely has a natural instinct for tennis and chased the ball like an eighteen year old.”
Denis offers coaching sessions around the North of the borough, including Bacon’s College in SE16 and Downside Fisher Youth Club, Mint Street Adventure Playground and Tanner Street in SE1.
