The funeral of Grace Jones, of Bermondsey, will take place this Saturday 7th December 2013, which would have been her 114th birthday.
Grace Jones was born on 7th December 1899 and died on 14th November 2013.
At her death Grace was the oldest person in Britain and according to best records the sixth oldest person in the world. Grace had lived in her own council flat until just a few weeks before her death when, following a fall and admission to hospital, Grace spent the last few weeks in a local nursing home.
Grace's coffin will leave F.A Albin & Sons at about 9.45am, pause briefly outside Grace's last home on the Southwark Park Estate on Southwark Park Road, and then move to the Blue Market, Southwark Park Road, for a short service at 10.00am. The coffin will leave no later than 10.15am for a private service and burial at the cemetery where Grace's family are also buried.
Prayers will be said in the Blue Market by the vicar of St James and St Anne's, Bermondsey, Canon Gary Jenkins and the local MP, Simon Hughes, will pay a short tribute. All are welcome to attend.
