Today is a big day for Britain. The rescue is working and Britain's economy is the same size as it was before the crash in 2008.
The UK economy has grown by 0.8% over the last quarter and has now returned to the same level it was before the banking crisis in 2008. This is good news for people in Southwark and Bermondsey.
Delivering this recovery is why Liberal Democrats stepped up to the plate and joined the government in the national interest in 2010. I am proud that we have helped to rescue the British economy and to get it growing at the fastest rate of any major economy.
This recovery would not be happening without the Liberal Democrats. It is Liberal Democrats who have delivered an £800 tax cut to help millions of people to weather the storm. Of course not everybody is yet feeling the benefit of the recovery and I am determined that as the economy grows the people and families on lower incomes must be our first priority.
We must continue to make our economy stronger and our society fairer. My ambition is that every single person in our part of south London should benefit from the strong economy and has greater opportunities for them and their families.
