Crime down to lowest level in 30 years

Commenting on the recent crime figures released by the Office for National statistics, Simon Hughes, MP for Bermondsey and Old Southwark, said:

It’s really good news for people around the country that crime is down by 10% since the coalition government took office. New figures released this week show that overall crime is at its lowest since 1981.

It is good news for London as well – crime is down by 9% in the last year.

I will be working hard with Southwark Liberal Democrats and the local police force to make sure we are doing everything we can to reduce crime rates even further in our community.
