Simon Hughes joined hundreds of visitors at Borough Market last Saturday (20th Sept) to celebrate a wonderful 1,000 years of London’s oldest wholesale market.
Saturday's market visitors, including Mr Hughes, were invited to tread in paint and leave coloured footprints to celebrate 1,000 years of trading at the London Bridge location.
Simon Hughes said: “I am immensely proud to be MP for the world famous London Bridge and for Borough Market, for hundreds of years one of the best-known markets in Britain. Our part of London has had members of parliament since 1295, but the history of local trading goes back much further. It is a great tribute to those in charge of Borough Market today that this is such a vibrant and exciting place, which has plenty of the best quality food and drink to buy.”
