The Affordable Homes Bill, put forward by Liberal Democrat Andrew George MP, has made it through its first major stage in Parliament. The Bill will make changes to the spare room subsidy or 'bedroom tax'.
All Liberal Democrats present in Parliament today voted in support of the Bill, which was opposed by the Conservatives. The Bill has now been given a Second Reading and will now go into committee, enabling it to make further progress.
It is particularly pleasing as the Bill proposes the changes that I put forward in Parliament during the initial debates on this issue. Liberal Democrats have been able to lead in Parliament to make this change, and it is a big win for those who want to help the most vulnerable in society.
